How to please everyone

Have you ever tried to keep everybody happy? Let me drop you a hint: it can’t be done! I have a good friend that once said, “If you stood in the foryer of the Church building and passed out $50 bills there would be some complain that they wanted a $100 bill.”

There once was a man and his grandson that went on a journey. They were both walking and leading a donkey. Soon they met a man that said, “How foolish for you to be walking. One of you should be riding the donkey.”

So the man put his grandson on the donkey. The next traveler they met frowned and said, “How dreadful for a strong boy to be riding and the old man walks.” So the boy climbed off the donkey and the old man climbs on.

The next person down the road said, “I can’t believe that a grown man would ride and make a poor little boy walk.”

So the man pulled the boy aboard and off they rode the donkey together.

The next person screamed, “I never saw anything so cruel in all my life, two intellegent human beings riding on one poor defenseless donkey.”

So our question is, How do you please everyone? The answer is, YOU CAN’T! So don’t even try. Just do our best to please God. Paul said in Galations 1:10, “For do I now persuade men or God? Or do I seek to please men?”

The sooner that we learn we cannot live by the conscience of other people and trying to please them, the better off we will be.

When we spend our time trying to please others, we may sometimes find ourselves in a far worse predicament than when we first started. Peter said in Acts 5:29, “We ought to obey God rather than men.”
