Cougars end season at 11-5, head for playoffs

The Rosebud-Lott Cougars baseball team hosted the Thrall Tigers on Saturday, March 27, for their regular season finale. 

The Cougars were victorious, beating Thrall 8-2. 

The Tigers opened up the scoring in the first inning with one run, then Rosebud-Lott answered with a run of their own in the second inning to tie the game at 1. 

Pryce Rabroker tripled on a fly ball to center field, which helped the Cougars tie the game in the bottom of the second inning.

Rosebud-Lott jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fourth and never looked back with four runs to make the score 5-1. The Cougars continued to pull away with three more runs in the sixth inning to eventually win 8-2. Carson Kahlig singled on a line drive to left field, scoring one run, Rolando Leon drew a bases loaded walk for one run, and Bo McGinniss was hit by a pitch the very next at bat to bring in another run. 

Carson Kahlig led the Cougars with three runs batted in and Pryce Rabroker and Carson Kahlig each collected two hits for Rosebud-Lott. Rolando Leon earned the win on the mound for Rosebud-Lott. 

The starter surrendered one hit and one run over four innings, striking out three and walking four. Bo McGinniss, Matt Lopez, and Rawling Barton each threw an inning for the Cougars in relief. The three relievers combined for one run allowed on five hits, with three walks and four strikeouts. 

With this win, Rosebud-Lott finished the regular season with an overall record of 15-12 and a district record of 11-5. 

Up next for the Cougars is the postseason and they will be a four seed. Rosebud-Lott will travel to Lehman High School in Kyle to face the Harper Longhorns in the Bi-District round. It will be a one game series and the game will be on Saturday, May 4, at 1 p.m.
